Harem Scarem Halloween Hafla - October 26

Newport's annual Harem Scarem Halloween belly dancers' ball takes place on Friday 26 October 2012 at The Rogerstone & Bassaleg Social Club, Tregwilym Road, Rogerstone NP10 9DT.

It features around 30 spooky solo and group bellydance performances, plus live music from gypsy punk band Rogora Khart and a Middle Eastern disco with DJ Andy Roberts.

There'll also be a large bazaar and a licensed bar.

Tickets cost £12 in advance or £14 on the door by prior arrangement only.

Halloween workshop near Hereford - October 21

Alanya is holding a Halloween Fun Choreography Workshop on Sunday 21 October 2012 at Hope-under-Dinmore Village Hall, Hereford HR6 0PP.

She'll be teaching a complete routine to the Tom Jones song What's New Pussycat?

The workshop runs from 1.30 to 4.30pm and costs £10 - refreshments and pussycat tail included in the price - £9 if you have your own tail!

Museum to show klezmer parsnip video

Strange but true - the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York is to show a short video of me playing Hava Nagila on a parsnip at KlezFest in London in 2009.

This video will be shown as part of an exhibition of "modern" versions of the well-known Jewish tune.

Bellydance workshops and hafla with Lorna Gow in Swansea

Lorna Gow comes to Swansea on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 July 2012  to perform at a hafla and teach two workshops.

The hafla takes place on the Friday night at The Salisbury, 128 Walter Road, Swansea SA1 5RG - 7pm till late, tickets £10 in advance.

On the Saturday Lorna will teach workshops on Egyptian styles (11am-1pm) and saidi stick dance (2-4pm).

The workshops take place at St James' Church Hall, Walter Road, Swansea SA1 5NE and cost £15 each.

Bellydance taster session in Presteigne

 

Alanya is offering a free bellydance taster session on Monday 28 May 2012 at St Andrew's Hall, Presteigne, Powys LD8 2HE.

 

It's an open level session, suitable for all ages (14+), sizes and fitness levels.  

This fun, feminine dance form improves flexibility, stamina, co-ordination, confidence and wellbeing, and no previous dance experience is necessary.  

Tutor Alanya (Abbie Mason) holds a JWAAD Diploma in Teaching Arabic Dance and will get you shimmying!

 

The free taster session is followed by 3 introductory classes for £12.   Regular class to follow, 8.00-9.30pm, £25 per 5-week block.

JuJu play live in Wales

Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara bring their brand of African desert blues to Wales as part of a UK tour this spring and summer by their band JuJu.

They play Pontardawe Arts Centre on Saturday 19 May 2012 and the Hay Festival on Friday 8 June 2012.

Other festival dates include Wychwood and WOMAD, where JuJu will perform with Robert Plant as part of the Sensational Space Shifters.
