Ozgen in Baglan reviewed

Safeena sent this review of Ozgen's recent visit to Baglan:

"Congratulations and very many thanks to Alison Dugmore and the Suhayla group, Bev, Jan and Ray, who were involved in organising Ozgen’s weekend of workshops last weekend and the wonderful hafla on the Saturday night..

"The venue was brilliant, the food was marvellous and the whole evening was really enjoyable.

"Because I have assisted Ozgen with these workshops in the past, I did not attend the workshops this time, but turned up at 4pm to set up the Bazaar. Everyone was buzzing following the workshops despite the heat and the hard work, and the atmosphere was so positive I knew we were in for a good night.

"There were about 14 performances and Ali had me opening the show which was great for me, I could then relax and watch the other performances.

"The beginners and improvers group dances were great with ladies making their debut on the night. It takes a lot of courage to perform for the first time and they were wonderful

"We had polished performances by regular performers such as Alicia, Lawanna and Keshini and the usual spectacular and innovative performances by the HIZ YA WIZ group, including a sparkling rendition of “Shaft” !!! with purple afro wigs and feather boa trimmed dresses. Also, a novelty and hilarious act by Siamese Twins Ting and Tong which had us rolling in our seats.

"I just love the way that the ladies in the Swansea area combine talent with fun and the mixture of serious and lighthearted performances only enhanced the evening.

"Ozgen was the guest dancer. Despite having taught two gruelling workshops earlier in the day, there was no sign of him flagging. He treated us to his unique gypsy style dancing at the end of the first half, and a rope dance and cabaret style performance at the end of the show. Girls…what Ozgen does with a length of rope is totally riveting!! (BEHAVE!!!)

"I wish to thank all the ladies who visited and shopped at my Souk – which took THREE HOURS to set up and over an hour to pack away.

"Another successful event and another triumph for the Bellydance Community in South Wales, long may it continue."
