Middle Eastern music in Pontardawe - April 25

Oud masters Khyam Allami and Ahmad Al-Khatib join forces with percussionists Youssef Hbeisch and Andrea Piccioni to perform as DoubleDuo at the Pontardawe Arts Centre near Swansea on Wednesday 25 April.

Allami, a musician of Iraqi descent, first made his mark as a child violinist in Damascus before working as a rock drummer in London and more recently playing the oud at the BBC Proms.

Using the Maqam modal system as a basis, DoubleDuo combine their breathtaking instrumental skills through sensitive, dynamic improvisations, infusing the soulful, melancholic beauty of Arabic classical performance with a myriad of rich musical influences.
