Harem Scarem III - Halloween Ball


Tickets are now on sale for Shirley Griffiths' Halloween Ball - Harem Scarem III - at Burleigh Hall, Llanthewy Road, Newport, on Saturday 27 October.

Taking place in a converted former church, it'll be her biggest Halloween bellydance ball to date, and will include a professional light show as well as performances by local groups and tutors with music from DJ Andy Roberts.

Hossam and Serena in Pembrokeshire for 2008


Hossam and Serena Ramzy are coming to Pembrokeshire in 2008 for a weekend of workshops and perfomance from February 29 to March 2.

Dancers from all over Wales are invited to join them in creating some fresh choreographies to his music and perform them at a show at the Merlin Theatre in Haverfordest on March 1st.

They're looking for six to eight dances from different groups, which will be followed by a 45 minute show from Hossam and Serena.

Your interest and choreography idea needs to be submitted by November 1 2007 to aid organisation and ensure dances are well rehearsed.

Egyptian Nights Christmas Workshop and Cabaret


Maria D'Silva will be the guest star and tutor at the Egyptian Nights Christmas Workshop and Cabaret Club at Emersons Green Village Hall, Bristol BS16, on Saturday 15 December.

She'll lead an open level Ghwazee workshop from 3 till 5pm, and will then star in the cabaret club (open to all) from 7.30 till 11pm.

The workshop costs £20 and the cabaret club £18, or you can buy tickets for both for £35.

Ahlam - a celebration for world peace


Hannah Corr and Halfouine Dance would like to invite you to an evening of Middle Eastern Dance, music and storytelling at The Gate Arts Centre, Keppoch Street, Cardiff, to celebrate World Peace Day on Friday 21st September.

There will be special guest dancers, live oud from Scott Baker, a Peace Prayer Ceremony and the highlight of the evening will be Ahlam, which depicts the world's great Goddesses through music & dance.

Following the show there'll be a hafla in the dance studio with DJ Andy Roberts, henna painting, group dancing and beautiful solos from our talented dance community including Stephanie Gawne-Hamza.

The show starts at 8pm - tickets cost £10 or £8.50 concessions. All profits are to go to an organisation working for peace.

Shema in Somerset - latest news


An update on upcoming events with Dar Tangerina...

This Saturday 11th August there are Harem Style (with Veils) and Gypsy Turkish Bellydance, and Cabaret Style Bellydance workshops with Ozgen Ozgec as well as Floor Work and Props, Turkish Style workshop with Shema held at Oake Village Hall, Oake (near to Taunton, easy access from M5) from 12-5.30pm

Then in the evening, there is a party at Stawley Mill (again, easy access from M5) featuring live music from Chas and Simon; The African Tumblers; and maybe a natural show from The Perseids Meteor Shower which starts that evening! Plenty of space to camp if you want to stay overnight - bring a bottle, picnic, and something warm for later on when it gets chilly! £5 donation for musicians, all profit going to charity.

Flavours Restaurant in Wellington is holding Arabic evenings as part of the Wellington Food Festival on September 6th to 8th. Shema will be performing on the 6th and 8th, and Sarah will be debuting on the 7th. Bookings in advance only on 01823 662006. Cost is £30 for 3 courses of sumptuous Mediterranean food, and first drink free! (glass of wine, beer, soft drinks). Dietary requirements catered for in advance (ie veggie, vegan etc). Entertainment included!!

On Sunday 26th August there's an Introduction to Bellydance Workshop from 2 till 5pm at Oake Hall. A great chance for beginners to have a go at Arabic bellydance, covering various different styles from Egyptian to Moroccan, Turkish and Cabaret. Also a good opportunity for existing members of the dance school to brush up on the basics before the start of term! Oake Hall, £18 in advance.

Wings Workshop in Bristol - Sept 22


Aileen aka Zuleikha from the Stafford group Wings of Isis is holding a Wings Workshop on Saturday 22 September at Headley Park School, Headley Park, Bristol.

The workshop will involve learning how to use and control this prop and how to incorporate wings into a choreography.

Wings will be available for purchase from Penny Walters' Everything Egyptian bazaar from 12.30 till 1pm, followed by the workshop 1 till 3pm.

Cost £22 or £20 'early bird' booking before August 30.

Ozgen Workshop and Hafla - September 1


Ozgen returns to south Wales for a workshop and hafla on Saturday 1 September.

He'll be teaching a choreography at Bannatynes Health Club, Llanishen, Cardiff, from 1 till 3pm - cost £15, or £13.50 if booked and paid by August 15.

In the evening he'll be the star guest at Safeena's September Hafla at the Newport Stadium clubhouse, near Carcraft in Newport.

The hafla starts at 6pm with a hot Egyptian style buffet being served from 6.30 till 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8.

Please note that the UK Bellydancer of the Year heat that was scheduled to take place that day has been cancelled along with the competition as a whole.

Charity Arabian Ball in Narberth


The annual charity Arabian Ball in aid of the British Red Cross takes place at the Queens Hall, Narberth, Pembrokeshire, on Saturday 15 September.

It'll be a glittering evening of authentic Arabian dance, live drumming and Arabian disco with DJ Andy Roberts - his first bellydance gig in his native Pembrokeshire.

Special guest performers include Imman and Siluria - there'll also be a raffle and a bazaar selling oriental rugs, bellydance accessories and body oils.

Doors open 8pm with performances starting at 8.30pm - tickets cost £10 with all proceeds to the British Red Cross.

Café Q will be preparing a special Middle Eastern Platter for the night for an additional £6.50 per head – advanced bookings only.
